Instagram Shadow-Ban: Things you NEED to know!

You may have noticed that I’ve been sharing a lot of  Instagram tips lately and for a good reason! Instagram has become a huge tool for marketers to expose their business online and I’m one of them.

Now a while ago you might have been experiencing a little something called shadow-ban, it means that Instagram has been banning some accounts from showing in the Explore section, and among the hashtags they use. That would lead to less engagement, less likes and of course less FOLLOWERS. If you’re not a big fan of Instagram or you use it just for fun, you wouldn’t notice any difference. But of you count on generating money online like myself, that my darling would be a huge problem!

Let’s discuss first the reason why you’re being shadow-banned.

If your case doesn’t fit here, your engagement drop could be a result of poor content or inconsistency.

YOU’RE USING AUTOMATIC BOTS!

While automatic bots like Likestagram  are a quick way to gain more followers, they can kill your account slowly because they go against Instagram’s Terms of Service. If Instagram suspects that your engagement is not generated organically (or sponsored) your account will be susceptible of Instagram Shadow-Ban!

This could also be resulting from an analytics app you’re using too! Not every sponsored app link on Facebook is eligible! (Learned that the hard way)

YOU’RE USING A BANNED HASHTAG!

While hashtags are a great resource to generate followers and likes (unless you’re Selena Gomez), you might be using some of them that are broken or banned. You see, the good people who work at Instagram are keen to clean up the app from spammy and pornographic content. Unfortunately for some of us, some of these banned hashtags are among the most popular like #dogsofinstagram (yes you see how cruel is that?!)

Using one of these broken hashtags can actually break the rest of your hashtags in the post, causing them to be ineffective!

YOU’RE VIOLATING INSTAGRAM ENGAGEMENT LIMITS!

Instagram might Shadow Ban your account if you spend a good part of your day engaging with other users and following-unfollowing them because that would appear to Instagram as if you’re using an Automatic Bot.

YOU’VE BEEN REPORTED!

There are 2 results to be reported: Either your account would be shut down completely, or you would be Shadow Banned. In all cases this is the easiest way to notify Instagram that your account is up to no good.

 

Now is time to fix things!

If your case fits the above points, take a deep breath and relax because here’s how you can fix the problem

STOP  USING AUTOMATIC BOTS!

Easy peasy! Just log into Instagram on your desktop and click on Edit Profile. Then check your authorized applications and revoke access from any of these services as well as any other ones that you don’t recognize. Although I even recommend that you revoke access from everything that way you’ll be extra safe. Also, log out and delete all the apps that might related your account to them!

Free analytics apps are to be deleted too unless you’re using a worldwide known app like iconosquare!

CHECK YOUR HASHTAGS!

As we referred in the above section, you might be using banned or broken hashtags that could affect your post completely! Wondering how you can recognize them? Just try and enter your desired hashtag in the search bar. Banned or broken hashtags will only show the top posts and hide all the recent posts associated with them,

FOLLOW THE RULES!

I mean rules and terms exist for a reason! just stay away from what violates Instagram Terms & Services and you’ll be fine!

TAKE SOME TIME OUT!

Allow your account to breathe again. Log out an leave it to rest a couple of days take an Instagram vacation and explore the world. After that, start posting and engaging but MANUALLY this time!

Editor’s Note

If you’re not aiming to pay for sponsored posts and building a business, it might be preferable to switch back to a personal account. If you’re using Instagram to build an online business community, keep your business account active and spend a couple of dollars and boost your posts. It’ll be worth it I promise!

How to Post on Instagram from a Computer

You might be familiar with surfing Instagram from your computer but have you thought about POSTING directly from it?

Because some of us do not own great phone cameras and it’s a real pain to transfer pictures from our camera to our desktop, edit them then re-transfer them to our phone, here are 4 easy ways to post on Instagram from a computer that will save us both time and energy!

FROM CHROME

Sign in your usual account as if you’re about to surf Instagram then click on F12

The developer view should pop up but don’t worry this has nothing to do with developing.

When you do that, all you have to do is click CTRL + SHIFT + M and the Instagram feed will turn into Mobile view.

See?? Easy Peazy right?! Now just click on the camera icon and post the picture of your choice from your PC gallery but ALERT! There are no filters in this method so you need to post it as it is or pre-edited.

FROM SAFARI ON MAC

Go to Preferences then Advanced and check the box that says “Show developer Menu in Menu Bar”.

That done, open the private browsing window and then go to USER AGENT –> SAFARI –>IOS–> IPHONE

Open Instagram.com and click on the camera icon at the bottom of your screen to upload a picture from your desktop gallery.

FROM GRAMBLR

Open Gamblr.com and click on the Download button. This method works for both Mac and Windows.

Create a Gamblr account and insert your Instagram details don’t worry it’s 100% safe otherwise I wouldn’t be sharing it with you.

Click on save to continue, Apply some filters, add a caption and tags then hit SEND!

After opening the app, you’ll soon realize that it’s similar to Instagram application on your phone!

Burgers you must try at least once!

#Burgers are not hard to find. In fact, it’s so damn rare to pass by a town and not notice at least ONE burger joint. However, it isn’t so simple to find a place that serves decent and high quality burgers because the standard my darlings, is not about WHERE you eat a burger, but HOW YOU FEEL while, and after you eat it.

I visited Burger joints around Lebanon and decided to briefly share with you some of my favorites so far.

This cozy joint is a family owned restaurant located in Tabarja. They serve a large variety of house made sandwiches, Indian platters, salads, and burgers. Among their tasty menu I tried the Mexican burger which is a combination of a 130g of  Mexican beef patty, guacamole, onions, tomato, jalapenos, tortilla chips and their special mild Mexican sauce. Served with a side of coleslaw and crunchy fries, this platter is definitely Lunch/Dinner goals when you feel like a quick bite on your way from the beach this summer 😉

Classic Burger at Crepaway

Crepaway still leads when it comes to service, speed and quality especially when it comes to kickass burgers. I always visit the branch in Citymall Beirut, and my all time weakness has to be the classic, a mix of Black angus beef with cheddar cheese, lettuce, grilled onions, ketchup, mayo and dijonnaise sauce. Despite the simplicity of its ingredients, Crepaway’s classic burger explodes in flavors! Highly recommended and reachable no matter where you live in Lebanon!

Cozy and calm, Classic Burger Joint outlets are the perfect for a casual date, a get-together after uni or a quick bite while shopping. I tried both Beirut Souks and Le Mall outlets and let me tell you, one can’t go wrong with any of the burgers at Classic Burger Joint, but my choice for the best would be the Classic cheese Burger. It’s not just the classic sauce and fresh beef patty that makes it, it’s the double american cheese and those homemade pickles with the classic coleslaw salad!

Now whomever knows me acknowledges that burgers are by far my weakness & would even go as far as to say that I’m addicted; I just constantly crave patties between buns several times a day is that a crime?

Al Saniour Sea View | Birthday Review

It took a while, but I think I’ve found the perfect destination for an affordable yet super fun birthday! Let me wrap up a little bit. My Boyfriend and Best Friends decided to celebrate my birthday so they reserved a table at Al Saniour Sea View.

It was my second time visiting this restaurant, and I almost forgot about my first experience so I didn’t exactly know what to expect. The place was crowded, but we didn’t feel trapped at all because tables were smartly set apart.

While my friends ordered the Greek Salad, the Crab Salad, A Poulet Kiev and a Sushi boat.

My boyfriend ordered a Taouk pizza, I (who’s supposed to be on a diet) snuck out a slice of pizza from his plate and indulged in a delicious marinated Salmon salad from their O&C sushi menu and I can tell you I have never been so full after a salad and only ONE slice of pizza! 😉

Everything on the table came super fresh and tasty, although I recommend a lighter hand on the pizza dressing.

Service was amazing as the helpful staff never missed a chance to visit our table to check that everything was going well but I wish my plate arrived along with the rest of the dishes lol it took time to marinate the salmon maybe.

Last but not least, Al Saniour Sea View is highly recommended for families and friends who wish to celebrate good vibes and good times. Will be visiting again soon! 💚

How to be a successful Social Media Community Manager

Hello, Ladies! Today is about releasing that talented inner Social Media Freak that’s been hiding for years now. We are the generation of the Internet, so we might as well take advantage! I need a marketing/journalism degree for that you might tell me. but I’m here to prove that you can succeed in managing Social Media Accounts in exchange of cash, using only your fingers, and your brains! See the true key to succeed at managing Social Media accounts, is what I like to call the F&B (Fingers and Brains)and I am POSITIVE that when you apply them, your clients will be as mind blown as mine 🙂

DON’T FOLLOW-UNFOLLOW!

There are millions of reasons going through my head now on how the Follow-Unfollow technique will RUIN the brand’s reputation. I once worked for a firm that applied this technique and believe me, the amount of swears and insults the clients received every day from angry unfollowed fans was unbearable. I mean, think of it as yourself, would you like it if you were followed by a huge brand on Instagram or Twitter then unfollowed the next day?! You would hate that right?! Well, guess what? SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE! Applying this technique is a way to kill the brand slowly in the longer term, So if I were you, I wouldn’t promise high numbers and instead would promise an engaging community and mutual trust between the brand and the potential customers.

PARTICIPATE IN CONTENT CREATION!

A A successful community manager does not sit back and wait for content to share. You should work side by side with the client’s GRAPHIC DESIGNER because, at the end of the day, a Graphic Designer doesn’t know the first thing about Social Media content! Explain the way you need the visual to be designed and work together on creating content that respects the 20% rule (Text should not exceed 20% of the picture otherwise you won’t be able to boost it). And don’t settle for any content just for the sake of posting; part of being a social media community manager is that you should share your ideas with the client and graphic designer: don’t be afraid to hurt their feeling because you won’t; your intention is to grow the brand and not ruin it with underqualified content!

BE CREATIVE!

People are not dumb, They can read that you’re using the same caption or someone else’s over and over again and as you keep copying and pasting captions, followers will eventually get so bored of you and chances are they might start by ignoring the brand then unfollowing it after a while. Research for ideas and take inspirations from other brands while respecting copyrights because well, you know, PEOPLE WORKED HARD FOR THEM!

BUILD A RELATIONSHIP WITH THE COMMUNITY!

The Social Media community does not consist in ghosts! Follow the right audience, like their pictures and leave a thoughtful comment once in a while it’ll make them happy and at the same time. they’d feel much closer to that brand and become loyal fans; at the end of the day, that’s your aim right? Answer questions promptly, reply to every single message and check Facebook/Zipkick/Zomato.. reviews. The community should trust you and await your content. When you stop replying to them and when you intentionally ignore their concerns, they will not only Unfollow you, but chances are they’re spreading the word to their friends and you’ll lose fans/customers that you never even had!

HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY!

None of us was born with a stack of knowledge. so if you’re not sure how to respond to a customer or a bad review, don’t hesitate to communicate with your clients and figure out together an answer that will fulfil the commenter/reviewer’s needs as soon as possible. If you feel that the information requested should not be shared with the rest of the world, message the concerned customer PRIVATELY and thank them for taking interest in the brand! And remember “DON’T SWEEP PROBLEMS AND BAD REVIEWS UNDER A RUG”: ignoring the problem here will not make it go away but it could worsen it so deal with it as soon as you can!

ANSWER BAD COMMENTS/REVIEWS POLITELY!

One little bad review will not ruin the brand’s reputation, but a bad response to it might do! So before you answer with your heart no matter how unfair the review/comment might be (here it comes) USE YOUR F&B!! Communicate the problem first with your client, and RESEARCH the best answers before you come up with your own! Remember that the customer is ALWAYS right and answer politely while requesting the customer’s contact information in order to better understand his/her concerns. 80% of the times you respond kindly and politely, the reviewers change their rating or edit and add how helpful you were in understanding their complaints.

STAY UP TO DATE!

Keep following Social Media because it will NOT wait until you catch up. Every day, there are a hundred articles that pop up featuring new and improved techniques in order to get more followers and engagement so DO NOT IGNORE THEM! Instead, take inspiration from them and try to apply them to your client’s Social Media channels.

Knefeh: Lebanon’s Favorite Breakfast!

Popular in Lebanon and around the Middle East, Knefeh is a much-loved syrup-soaked cheese dessert mostly enjoyed for breakfast with Ater which is Arabic for Sugar Syrup! 🙂 Now since in Lebanon we enjoy this privilege in almost every bakeshop and gourmet, I decided to share with you a simple recipe to create this little wonder and host a sweet  party in your taste-buds!

Serves

Preparation

Overnight

Ingredients: 

Knefeh:

160 G Unsalted & Melted Butter

440 G Corn Flakes, finely Crushed (Easier than the kataifi pastry but you can use it as well)

41/2 Cups Milk

110 G Caster Sugar

90 G Fine Semolina

600 ML Thickened Cream

1 TBSP Corn Flour

1 TBSP Rose Water

500 G Sweetened Akkawi Cheese (You should soak it in water overnight a day before because it’s super salty but believe me it’s worth it ;))

Ater:

440 G Caster Sugar

1/2 TBSP Lemon Juice

1/2 TBSP Rose Water

Step By Step:

  • Mix Corn Flakes and Melted Butter in a bowl to combine and completely coat the cereals then pour half of the mixture in your 24 cm x 34 cm x 4 cm tray. Keep it refrigerated until needed.

  • Dissolve Cornflour in 1 TBSP of warm water then add it to a large saucepan containing milk, sugar, semolina and cream; place mixture over medium-low heat and cook, stirring constantly, for 12 minutes or until very thick.  after that, remove from heat and stir with Rose Water, then allow the mixture to cool a bit.

  • Now the Fun Part! Preheat your oven to 180ºC  & spoon half of the semolina mixture over Corn Flake base, then scatter over Akkawi cheese. Cover with the rest of the semolina mixture, then scatter over remaining Corn Flake mixture.

  • Bake for 25 minutes or until the edges start to bubble, then remove from the oven and allow it to cool completely before refrigerating it overnight.

  • Ater or Sugar Syrup is pretty easy to make! Place the Sugar with 1 cup of water water (250 ML) over medium heat and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved, It should be ready after 8 minutes of stirring or when you feel like the mixture has thickened; Remove from heat and allow to cool completely.

  • TIME TO EAT 😀 Preheat your oven to 200ºC and bake Knefeh for 10 minutes or until Cheese just starts to ooze from the sides. Drizzle with Syrup and cut into portions then decorate with pistachios. Serve Immediately!
